Ash Godley (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist with oil painting as a primary focus.

Ash’s arresting use of light and shadow to depict the familiar from an unfamiliar perspective provides the viewer with a narrative that is beguiling and mysterious. With ten years of painting experience, Ash has developed a keen sense of colour and shading that allows them to interpret on canvas the affected lighting and unique distortions inherent in photography.

Unremarkable residential and domestic architecture is made the theatrical centre of dramatic tension by use of flashlight beams, glowing tv screens, and camera flashes. This voyeuristic and noirish treatment of the banal cultivates and ignites the viewer’s anxiety and their trepidation of the unknown lurking in the dark corners of the frame.
